How to Communicate Your Self-Care Needs to Your Husband

Communicating Self-Care to Your Husband

I was talking with a friend this week and she told me that she never even heard of having a strategy for her own self-care.

Taking the time to understand our personal needs, and how to go about meeting those needs, is vital to creating rhythms of rest and refreshing throughout our day, our week, our month, and our year.

It takes some intentional action, but once we know how to do this, we gradually become our very own "self-care expert!"

But ladies, if we don't understand what we need to refill our cup, it is quite unfair to expect our husbands to know what we need. We've gotta give them a break, right?

Once, however, we gain understanding we can clearly communicate to our husbands in a way that incorporates them into our plan. And, it also empowers them to help us take good care of ourselves.

I had a chat with licensed marriage counselor Faith Joyner of For Wives Only on "How to Communicate Your Self-Care Needs to Your Husband."

We dive right in to answer these questions:

  • How do we become clear about what we actually need?
  • What do I do if my husband doesn’t understand what I need even after I clearly communicate it to him?
  •  What do I do if my husband is deployed, works out of town, is unavailable due to physical limitations, or just isn’t available to help me take time for myself?
  • And a lot more!

Listen below to my interview with Faith and pick up a few more tools for your personal self-care toolbox.
